Feeding the arabian horse

Arabian horses can be particularly difficult in feeding. Their smaller bodyweight (in compairison with thoroughblood or warmblood sporthorses) and their sometimes sensitive digestive system demand full attention when providing roughage and compound feed.

In general, always see that the following guidelines are followed:
  • see to it that the horses have enough daily training and movement (if difficult, use a trainingmill). Do not forget that a horse needs more daily movement than just an hour a day; in their natural habitat they would "walk around" the whole day;
  • provide as much meals a day as possible (if possible at least 3; 4 is even better);
  • always give some roughage before the compound feed (to prevent from risk of obstruction);
  • do not provide a diet too rich in proteins, as especially arabian horses do not need extra proteins (except broodmares and foals);
  • always provide enough fresh water

What should be fed?

    Draversbrok

    HAVENS Muesli-without-Oats
    (or "Cool-Mix" )
    A non-heating oats-free muesli with micronised flaked cereals, alfalfa, a special vitamin pencil and extra Beta-Carotene for breeding or leisure horses. Reduced energy and extra fibers from healthy alfalfa.
    Can also be fed in combination with oats or other cereals, especially together with (locally available) oats or barley (e.g. 50% - 50%).

    Muesli-without-Oats ( or " Cool-Mix" ) can be a solution for nervous and allergic horses and/or for older horses / horses at rest.

    Major features of HAVENS Muesli-Without Oats:
    • low in energy (slow releasing for better control);
    • a high fiber feed with extra Beta-Carotene (= Pro-Vitamin A);
    • contains extra speltwheat (from biological culture) in order to stimulate chewing and digestion;
    • fortified with vitamins and minerals, esp. Vit E. ("the muscle-vitamin");
    • especially recommended for all easy-to-feed horses, nervous horses or sensitive horses and/or horses prone to digestive diseases and/or equine colic;

    HAVENS Reform Herbal Muesli
    A complete and unique fully balanced muesli of flaked cereals,alfalfa, carrotflakes, vitamins, minerals and a wide variety of natural herbs and essential oils.
    Reform-Herbal-Muesli has an extremely low protein-level (so there is no surcharge of kidneys) and keeps the horse in a better general health.

    Contains special herbs (a.o. Eucalyptus, Thyme, Fenugreek) in combination with substantial amounts of extra extra A-, B- and E-Vitamins.
